Curiosity and a restless intellect are higher powers in humans; the hunter and the gatherer are instinctive traits. In some of us they combine in a mind that gives us a miracle like polio vaccine (Jonas Salk). In others the powers combine to give us the greedy nightmare of Enron (Jeffrey Skilling et al.) Being unsatisfied with “what we have” is responsible in part for all our progress, and all our sin.
